Questions to consider before buying your refrigerator…..
Space available – where will the refrigerator go?
Take measurements! Measure width and height allowing for
overhead cabinetry, if any. Measure depth if you want a
counterdepth model. Leave room to accommodate for hinges
and leveling. Leave space around the refrigerator to allow
air to circulate for proper venting and maximum efficiency.
Measure width and depth with the doors open.
Make sure there is an electrical outlet nearby.
If you want water and icemaker features, make sure there is adequate plumbing nearby.
What type of refrigerator will be better for your needs?
Bottom-Mount, Top-Mount, Side-by-Side, or a Built-In.
Choose a configuration which makes it easier for you given your cooking and buying habits.
How much capacity do you require? Two people generally require between 8-10 cu ft. A family of four should have 18 cu ft. For each additional person, add on an extra cubic foot.
What features will simplify your life? Adjustable shelving, spill-proof shelves, an icemaker, water dispenser, a locking option, reversible doors?
Of course, last but not least, what price range are you comfortable with? Built-ins are usually more expensive than the other three basic types of refrigerators. Consider the energy-efficiency of the unit. The lower the number, the more efficient the refrigerator is. Look for the energy labels which tell you operating costs as well.
