You need a new dishwasher. What size will fit best in your kitchen? The most common size is a 24″ built-in. If you prefer an under-the-sink model or wish to place it beneath certain cooktops, thus maximizing your space, you can get a 24″ model. For smaller spaces, an 18″ size is available. Of course, portable dishwashers are another option. Compare Energy Star labels. Which model will be most cost-efficient? If you have a large family, opt for a dishwasher with a large capacity. Check the sound decibel level to choose a noise level you can feel comfortable with.
What cycle selections are available? Traditional models have a minimum of three which include heavy, normal and light cycles. For tough to clean, baked on foods, a pots and pans cycle is a good choice. If you have delicate china and/or crystal, a china cycle should be considered.
Are there disposers and/or filters for hard food removal? Are there wash and scrub options available? Is there a “heated dry” feature? A “pre-rinse” feature? Sanitizing features? Soil sensors? Do you have odd-shaped dishes? Will the dishwasher be able to accommodate these? Is there a silverware holder that will actually hold your silverware? How easy is it to maintain the dishwasher?
What is the style and decor of your kitchen? What is your budget? Are you replacing an existing dishwasher or buying one for a new home or apartment? What is the factory-warranty and do you want additional years of coverage? Doing a little preparatory research will make your buying experience easier.
